FAQ

How much does tree removal cost?

It depends on size, location, condition and access, so we price every job after seeing it. The estimate is free. The tree removal page has the usual range.

Is the estimate really free, and how fast do I get it?

Yes, it is free. We get back to you within a day, come out and look at the tree, and you get the estimate within a week.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree?

It depends on the city and the tree. In Portland, generally yes for private trees 12 inches across or bigger and always for street trees (City of Portland). Other cities and counties have their own rules, and we cover the main ones on the tree removal page. Often we handle the permit for you; we will tell you what your city needs when we come out.

Are you licensed, bonded and insured?

Yes. Licensed, bonded and insured. Oregon CCB #254819. You can look up any Oregon contractor on the state CCB website.

Can I get a lower price?

Often, yes. The price depends on the work, how much cleanup you want, and whether we haul the wood or you keep the logs and firewood. We also offer limited or no cleanup, which cuts time on site. We will walk through the options at the free estimate.

When should I prune in Oregon?

Late autumn and winter suit most pruning, while trees are dormant. Dead or dangerous limbs can come off any time. See trimming and pruning.

How do I know if a tree is hazardous?

One of the most worrying signs is disturbed soil at the base: ground that is cracked, lifted or heaving, often on the side away from the lean. It means the roots are letting go. Other warning signs: visible cracks or splits, a lean of more than about 15 degrees, many dead branches, mushrooms at the base, decay or cavities in big limbs, or exposed roots. If you see any, send a photo.

Do you do emergency tree work?

Yes, 24/7. Call or text, do not use the form. More on hazardous and emergency work.

Do you grind stumps?

Yes. We grind at least 8 inches below ground, so you can plant or lay sod over it. Chips stay for mulch. Ask about a discount if you have more than one stump. See stump grinding.

What should a tree-service quote include?

The exact work, whether cleanup and haul-away are included, whether stump grinding is included, the license number, and proof of insurance. Our quotes show all of this.
